Welcome to Ben Golze's and Jeremy Chang's Miramonte Biology field study. Click on the image map below to make your choice or use the buttons at the left. News 5/12/99- We made the first visit to the site. We both sketched out a map of the site so we could compare and make a good one. We got a list of some animals and took pictures of the site. We also took some samples of plants. We saw dragonflies (red and blue), bees, misquotes , gnats, white butterfly or moth, flies, and spit bugs. We also saw a spider web. Some pollution we saw was water emptying into the pond through a black pipe, a white pipe on the side of the pond, and a wooden duck. 5/14/99- We visited the site and took a few more samples. We also took more pictures and got a sample of pond water to observe under the microscope in the Biology lab. We also worked on the website design. 5/18/99- We went to the site and got a sample of mud from the bottom of the pond for a soil analysis. After looking at the soil, we found that it didn't tell us anything. Everything was all clumped together at the bottom of the glass. We also began the real construction of the website. We also noticed that the soil around the pond is very dry and cracked in many places. 5/20/99- We took the tempature and tested the Ph of the pond. After this, we tried to look for some new species; we found one, the GoldenLined Frog. After this, we worked on the website, making the frames and scanning in some of the pictures. We also took some more notes on the pollution, noting the huge power line tower directly behind the pond. 5/23/99- Today, we went up to the site and did the routine stuff - took the temperature and Ph of the pond. Most of the work done today was inside, when we scanned many pictures and prepared them for being posted on the website. We also signed up for our web address at http://www.fortunecity.com. 5/25/99- We took the routine measure down at the pond, and did a lot of work on programming the site. We made the general structure for our website, and put some maps, including the drawn site map, the location map, and the image map. We also started on some of the discussion questions. 5/27/99- Today, only Ben worked on the site after school. He took the routine measures, and then we met online and decided on some things to do for the site. We wrote out the food chains and webs, and found some links for the link page. At school today, we made a great discovery. We took some pond water to school and used the microscopes in the biology lab to find what was in the pond. Among the algae and pond debris, we did find several Euglena, which are small photosynthetic eukaryotic organisms. 5/28/99- Today, we listed out all the species we could find on the page, and posted all of the pictures. We brushed up on some of the other stuff as well, and we finished posting everything onto the site. 5/31/99- YES! Today, we finished our project! We brushed up everything, and everything is brushed up. We also had a friend, Arlen Abraham, remake our title image. He had some fun with it, and it turned out looking very nice. Thanks Arlen! |
